I am currently pursuing my research as Research Scholar in the Centre for Disaster Mitigation and Management at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), under the guidance of Dr. G. P. Ganapathy. My current research focuses on investigating landslide-transportation interaction corridors using an integrated approach of remote sensing and geophysical techniques.
I completed my Masters in Applied Geology at the University of Madras, Chennai. I carried out my dissertation work on the motility of epiphytic foraminifera in seagrass and seaweed habitats under the supervision of Dr. N. Rajeshwara Rao. Additionally, I studied environmental geochemistry related to pollution in riverine ecosystems under the guidance of Dr. V. Gopal and Dr. M. Jayaprakash.
I have completed two internships that provided me with hands-on experience in geology and geophysical research. The first was at the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Bangalore, Karnataka, under the guidance of Dr. Subburaj. My work focused on hydrogeology, including the occurrence and movement of groundwater, groundwater resource estimation, exploration, aquifer mapping and management, geophysical surveys and hydrochemistry. The second internship was at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where I worked on resistivity modeling using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) under the supervision of Dr. Gautham Rawat and conducted earthquake data analysis using SEISAN software under the supervision of Dr. Sushil Kumar.
My overarching research goal is to enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure against landslide hazards. Specifically, my work seeks to:
- Understand the conditions and dynamics under which rainfall-induced landslides occur
- Improve the accuracy and effectiveness of landslide susceptibility mapping
- Quantify the impacts of landslides on critical infrastructure through integrated multidisciplinary assessments
To achieve this, I draw from a broad skillset by blending data science, climate science and risk management to develop actionable solutions and regulation framework for mitigating landslide risks.
